At the beginning of a woman’s menstrual cycle, estrogen levels increase daily. On about the fourteenth day, it reaches its peak. This causes the ovary to release an ovum. After ovulation, the estrogen levels begin to drop. The area where the ovum is released, called the follicle, the other two sex hormones, progesterone and testosterone, are produced and released. These three hormones make up the menopause hormones.
Progesterone prepares the uterus for conception and testosterone makes you frisky. That’s why so many surprised young pregnant women swear they only did it once. Nature set women up in this way. The one time a month a woman loses her inhibitions is when an egg is floating around waiting to be fertilized.
As a woman ages, estrogen levels fail to reach their peak. With estrogen missing its mark, her periods start to become irregular. This is called perimenopause. Once a woman has not had a period for one year, she is now considered menopausal. If you are in perimenopause or menopause, you are what we call hormonally challenged.
If you are no longer ovulating, your ovaries are no longer making progesterone or testosterone. Progesterone and testosterone are your fat burning hormones. Estradiol, one of your estrogens, is a fat storing hormone. The sad point is that estradiol is made by your fat. Fat makes estradiol and estradiol makes fat.
Are Your Menopause Hormones Challenged?
After perimenopause or true menopause, you have become hormonally challenged. You will start gaining weight and you will not be able to lose this excess weight no matter what you do. This is called weight loss resistance. The primary cause of weight loss resistance is another condition called estrogen dominance. To learn more about Estrogen Dominance, download our e-book at the bottom of this post
If you are hormonally challenged and suffer from weight loss resistance, you are most likely estrogen dominant. To understand more about estrogen dominance, you will need to know about the menopause hormones called The Sex Hormones…
Imbalanced Menopause Hormones Cause More Than Weight Gain
An imbalance in your sex hormones will not only cause weight loss resistance, but sleeping disorders, anxiety, depression, loss of energy, loss of sex drives, in fact all drives, like the drive to have fun and seek pleasure. An imbalance in your sex hormones will also cause hair to grow where you don’t want it to and hair to fall out where you don’t want it to, and an imbalance within your sex hormones will make you look older than you are, like those wrinkles above your lip, yeah, caused by a sex hormone imbalance…
The Menopause Diet : A Short Introduction
When we discovered that our weight loss resistance, sleeping problems and loss of drives were being caused by an imbalance between our sex hormones, we went on a mission to correct this imbalance without drugs. After years of fine tuning The Menopause Diet for our own survival, we started to share it with others. We went on to open seven Menopause Relief and Weight Loss Medical Clinics in seven different cities throughout Northern California. Over a ten year period, we shared this diet with thousands of our patients with great success.
As we taught thousands of women our secrets, the diet evolved. It became three diets within one. Each diet included a different menu and worked on a different set of hormones.
- The first diet worked on the menopause hormones called the sex hormones.
- The second diet, worked on the menopause hormones called the metabolic hormones, which included the thyroid hormones.
- The third diet worked on the menopause hormones called the stress hormones, which included the very strong fat storing hormone called cortisol.
We have recently retired from private practice and have placed everything we have learned into an online e-class course.
This post below is a small sample of what you will learn within the course.
The Menopause Hormones – The Sex Hormones
The Menopause Hormones – Estrogen
The Pretty Hormone
When we speak of estrogen, we are speaking of the three strongest estrogens. There are numerous weaker estrogens, in fact, scientists are discovering new estrogens yearly. According to our medical textbooks, estrogen is “the hormone that makes a woman a woman.” The reason it is considered a woman’s hormone is because it is the hormone that makes us pretty; it makes us have pretty skin, pretty hair, and pretty breasts.
We strongly disagree, not about estrogen making you pretty, but with it being a woman’s hormone. We tested estrogen levels in men several times a day at our clinics and an older woman can’t touch an older man’s estrogen level. That’s why men as they grow older become bitches. I’m sorry, I mean grumpy old men.
Estrogen is made in the ovaries of women and the testes of men, and in small amounts in our adrenal glands. When you combine age and “The Great American Diet,” we store excess fat, especially around our abdominal area. Our abdominal fat becomes our primary producer of estrogen. Abdominal fat becomes a hormone producing gland, and of course it produces all the wrong hormones.
Once a woman becomes menopausal, she no longer produces enough fat burning hormones. She begins to store fat and this fat produces enzymes that converts her progesterone and testosterone into estrogen. Fat makes estrogen and estrogen makes fat, and fat makes estrogen,,,
Oh! You can’t burn fat when estrogen is the dominant hormone. You are always in a fat burning state. Everything you eat turns to fat.
The Menopause Hormones – Progesterone
The Happy Hormone
Low levels of progesterone cause more problems than we can shake a stick at. You now know about estrogen dominance. Let me refine estrogen dominance’s definition a bit more. Estrogen dominance is not caused so much by estrogen being too high but by progesterone and/or testosterone being too low. In fact, we want estrogen to be high. We just want it balanced with the other two sex hormones.
We call progesterone the “Happy Hormone.” People with happy go lucky attitudes usually have high progesterone levels. They are more romantic, more compassionate and more loving than those with lower levels. Women start having problems with decreasing progesterone levels when they are in their thirties or after the birth of her second child. Low progesterone levels are the primary cause of what physicians call the triad of female psychoses— sleeping disorders, anxiety and depression. Men with low levels of progesterone are just called ass-holes.
Science has found that minimum ratio a woman should have is 200 molecules of progesterone to every 1 molecule of estradiol. This is called a P/E Ratio of 200 to 1. Every woman should know what her P/E ratio is. Our superstars, those that have lost all of their excess fat and ae singing and dancing have P/E ratios of 500 to 1 or more.
What is your P/E Ratio. I will tell you how you can find out below.
The Menopause Hormones – Testosterone
The Sex Hormone
It is easy to know if you have high or low testosterone levels. If you have high levels of testosterone, you will more than likely have a high sex drive. If you have low testosterone levels, you will have a low sex drive. Low testosterone will also cause excess abdominal fat (beer belly), depression, weakness, low self- esteem and low self-confidence. People with high levels of testosterone have high sex drives, flat bellies, enthusiasm, muscle strength, self confidence, sometimes to the point of arrogance, high energy and are driven to have fun and to be successful.
We have found that the more abdominal fat you have the less testosterone you have. One of the reasons is an enzyme called aromatase. It converts testosterone into estrogen. Estrogen makes us accumulate fat in the abdominal fat stores and this excess fat causes an increase in the aromatase enzyme that converts more testosterone into estrogen and so on and so on. When you increase your testosterone levels, it will mobilize your belly fat out of its abdominal storage areas and utilize it to turn it into muscle.
We have learned how to increase our testosterone levels naturally. We share all of these secrets within our e-course, The Menopause Diet.
