Menopausal Women and Andropausal Men enter the ‘third act’ of their lives differently. The women enter abruptly. The men enter gradually. They both find themselves standing in front of a mirror not recognizing themselves. It’s just not their bodies that have changed, but their personalities and their thoughts. They believe that they have to live with it. Their doctors even tell them this. Instead of listening to everyone, we developed a menopause relief and andropause relief system. We decided that we were not going to live with the menacing symptoms of being in the third act of our lives.
The first two acts of our lives prepared our bodies for the third act. And frankly, we did a lousy job. It really wasn’t our fault. We were told to eat processed foods and low fat diets. We lived in an environment filled with hormonal disruptors. Within our lifetimes, we went from consuming and absorbing good natural molecules to consuming and absorbing bad unnatural molecules. Our bodies, unbeknownst to us, had become a battleground between these bad unnatural molecules and our bodies’ immune and detoxification systems. We consumed the bad unnatural molecules and our bodies fought to eliminate these bad unnatural molecules. By the time we entered our “Third Acts,” our bodies had been fighting a constant battle, and our bodies defense systems were in complete turmoil. Our bodies had become bags of chronic inflammation, and as we all know by now inflammation is the primary cause of nearly all the chronic diseases. These diseases will most likely end our lives. Inflammation is the source of these diseases, like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer’s, obesity and hormonal disruption.
The first act of our lives was all about being taken care of by our parents or guardians. The second act of our lives was all about taking care of others and our careers. The third act is suppose to be all about us enjoying life. We had paid our dues. The problem was that our drives had vanquished. We no longer had the drive to have fun, to succeed, or to have sex. They had all evaporated like steam from a tea pot. We started gaining weight and then more weight and then we had bellies. We tried to lose the weight. We cut our calories substantially, we joined a gym, and we gained two pounds. We started waking worried and nervous about nothing and everything. These feelings lead us into a state of low spirits and we started to lose hope. We lost our courage to take life by the horns and control it. We hated to admit it but we had become sad, tired and even depressed.
The only time that we seemed happy is when we had four walls, a closed door, and we were left alone. Instead of being a magnet that attracted, we had turned upside down and had become a magnet that repelled, Guess what happens? We eventually get our wishes and are alone, wallowing within thoughts that define us as being old, mean, and grumpy. This one statement we have heard nearly every working day over the last 10 years. It was the driving statement that made it our passion to develop a menopause relief system
We become angry when someone pulls out in front of us. We fight with our children. We hate work. Our actions fill us with regret, but we don’t seem to care. We don’t have the energy to care or to enjoy. If we do go to a party, we look for a chair in the corner and fall asleep.
Vacations, holidays, outings, bah humbug! We say we don’t have the energy. In reality, it’s not a lack of energy. When pushed to remember, when young, driving across state lines to see some guy or gal caused no hesitation. Now, we won’t even drive down the street to purchase our favorite chow mein. It’s not a lack of energy. It’s a lack of motivation.
We Developed Our Menopause Relief System For Me First
The description above is our story and the stories we hear everyday from our clients. Can you see why we had to develop a menopause relief system. My wife had entered menopause in her forties and I had entered andropause in my fifties. I entered first. Yes that makes her younger, but that’s pretty obvious.
For the first 25 years of my career, I was a chiropractor. I ran a high volume office. I would routinely treat over 100 patients a day. In the eighties I had a nursing intern that worked for me. Her name was Vicky. She looked like Olive Oil. She had long legs, thin as a rail, and had long black hair. I can barely remember her.
I had several chiropractors, a medical doctor and RNs working for me. My success had led me into the public speaking forum. I had become a business management and motivational speaker. I got to travel all over the country jumping up and down on stages spewing words filled with enthusiasm. I remember, barely, that this Vicky got to go watch me speak along with about 16 other of our team members in San Francisco.
Vicky moved away shortly after her internship. She got married and had two children. I got married and had three children. Twenty years later, I was a divorced father with full custody of my three children. Like most divorces it was mentally and financially draining.
I was working my in my office one day, fat and tired with pain in my knees, wrists and back. There wasn’t a patient that came in that was worse than me. Many of my successful high volume chiropractor friends had already retired on disability, because of these same symptoms. Anyway, on this day, Vicky came into my office with her 12 year old daughter. Her daughter had a headache.
Vicky was no longer Olive Oil. She had a face similar to Audrey Hepburn’s and a figure like Salma Hayek’s. She was a mixture of elegance and sexiness all wrapped up in one package. She too had just been divorced and had recently moved back to our hometown. She subtly let me know that she was looking for a job. I hired her and asked her out in the same sentence. I know, a bit unethical, but I knew right there and then that I wanted to know her better, a lot better.
To move forward quickly, We married. She got to see first hand how I struggled to get out of bed in the morning. she saw how I had to use the walls to walk myself to the restroom. I was scheduled to have bilateral knee and wrist surgery. She asked me to get some bloodwork and to make sure that I got my hormones tested. I said what!!! ‘I’m Latin I don’t have no hormone problem.’
I did have a hormone problem. I had very low testosterone and every high estradiol. I started on hormone therapy and my symptoms worsened. I quit. Then one day I was at a medical conference and while I was enjoying a cocktail I met an 86 year old physician who had recently rode his bicycle over the Sierra. I couldn’t ride my bike across town. I asked him his secret. He said hormones. I said, been there done that. He said ‘then you did them wrong.’
I immediately signed up for a conference given by The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. I starting treating myself with very low doses of naturally made hormones. Wa La! The pain went away, but more importantly my energy and my drives went off the chart. I did not know I could feel this good.
I took the test to become board certified in Anti-Aging Medicine from The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and passed. I retired from chiropractic to pursue a practice filled with my three passions, anti-aging medicine, nutritional medicine and functional medicine.
Then, Vicky became menopausal. She started gaining weight. She couldn’t lose it no matter what she did. That really bothered her. It got worse. She could not sleep. She was averaging about 4 hours a night. She started her mornings anxious, and her drives were gone. Sound familiar?
That is when we both dedicated our lives to optimizing the Third Act of lives and develop a menopause relief system as well as an andropausal relief system. We figured out why we had gained weight and why we could not lose it. We began to sleep like logs. We were able to control our minds instead of our minds controlling us. We became energetic, and our drives to have fun, to succeed and to have sex, well, they’re are all pretty awesome.
We then dedicated ourselves to teaching others how we did it. We opened, owned and operated 7 weight loss and anti-aging clinics. We had medical doctors, naturopaths and nurses working for us. After 10 years, on March 31st, 2016, we retired, but the phone would not stop ringing. Vicky convinced me to not shelve what we had learned. I agreed to continue teaching, but for me to teach across the country, I would have to give up my licence. We are only allowed to practice in the state we are licensed. For me to answer the phone calls across the country, I would have to become a coach. Instead of being Dr. Mac, I became David Mac, a menopause relief coach. Vicky and I are a team, even though she is a nutritionist, she runs the operations of our husband and wife team.
We found that it took 12 steps divided between 3 phases to achieve the bodies and minds we desired. While we were teaching these 12 steps to hundreds of clients in our numerous offices located throughout Northern California, we tweaked and tweaked it until we had developed what we now call The HOPE Protocol, a menopause relief system. It has turned out to be our mission and purpose on this planet. HOPE is an acronym for Hormone Balancing, Organic Lifestyles, Purging Toxins, and Electronic Coaching. Here are the steps we took within each phase.
- We developed the first of three hormone protocols that we named The Mac Sex Hormone Protocol.
- We developed a special diet to decrease inflammation that we named The Mac Anti-Inflammatory Elimination Diet.
- We developed a special detox to improve our liver function that we named The Mac Liver Detox.
- We then had to find coaches to educate us.
- We developed the second of three hormone protocols that we named The Mac Metabolic Hormone Protocol.
- We developed a second diet to eliminate our excess fat that we named The Mac Ketogenic Vegetein Diet.
- We developed a special detox to improve our gut’s function that we named The Mac Gut Repair.
- We then had to find coaches to encourage and motivate us.
- We developed the third of three hormone protocols that we named The Mac Stress Hormone Protocol.
- We developed a third diet to maintain our new physique that we named The Mac Discovery Diet.
- We developed a third detox to improve our cellular function that we named The Mac Cell Repair.
