The smell of the French Roasting… Nah, not French people, the Organic French Roast Coffee that Vicky was making for us. She was watching over her French press waiting for just the right time to push the plunger down.
As I took a seat at the table sitting in the middle of the green room. The hotel calls it a green room, but in reality it’s more like a break room or kitchenette.
I looked over at Vicky and said. “I love that dress you are wearing.”
“I bought it at Nordstrom’s Rack Yesterday.”
“It fits you so incredibly well.”
Vicky has great curves, and I love her curves.
“Thank you.” She said.
There was a slight tap on the door. You know, the type of knock that says it took courage. I opened the door and two women were standing there.
“Coach Mac, we are so very sorry for disturbing you. We had a few questions that we really need to ask you.”
Vicky from behind me said, “ Come on in. Would you like some coffee?”
One woman had short bleached blond hair and the other had even shorter blond hair, but hers was naturally blond. The bleached blond haired woman said no and the natural blond said yes. They were in their late fifties.
Vicky began serving them, and I rolled up my sleeves.
“What can I help you with?”
The women looked at each other and the natural blond spoke first.
“We recently purchased your program, as a team.”
I smiled and wondered if they were sisters. Purchasing our program as a team means they paid the price for one participant, but in reality they were sharing the program.
“I love it. Vicky and I believe in being frugal. We have no problem with that.” I said.
“We really want to lose the weight we gained after we went through menopause. By the way, I am Joanie and this is Ann. After we purchased the program, we saw that you want us to be in Phase One for at least a month before going into Phase Two. But Phase Two is where we lose the weight. We don’t want to wait a month. We want to go into Phase Two and lose weight like yesterday.” Said the natural blond.
“Have you tried losing weight?” I asked.
“Yes we’ve tried everything. Nothing has worked.” Said the bleached blond woman.
“Then why do you want to fail again?”
They quizzically looked at each other.
“Let me try to give you an example of what I mean. When I was in high school, I played on an undefeated football team. We were very good. I used to watch teammates of mine in the gym, friends that were much smaller than me, bench press 300 pounds. I could only lift about 175 pounds back then, and I was a lineman. Then in college, I played on a nationally ranked rugby team. These guys were the meanest toughest men I had ever had the pleasure to know. We still get together once in a while to relive the good ol’ days. At that time, I could only bench press about 200 pounds. The rugby players could lift way more than 300 pounds. No matter what I did I just could not develop upper body strength.”
I paused and realized that I was probably using the wrong analogy. I had started I would continue.
“I did have the strongest legs around. I remember when I was a sophomore in high school I did set the school record for the leg press. I pressed 750 pounds a couple dozen times. I can’t remember the exact number. God had given me very strong legs, but compared to my teammates, my upper body strength was quite weak.”
“I made a goal that by the time I would someday lift 300 pounds. On the day that I turned 60, I sent a video to my children. In that video, I bench pressed 305 pounds 12 times. In fact, the video shows me doing it on my 3rd set. That means I lifted 305 lb. 36 times.”
Vicky pulled out her phone and showed the video to them.
The two women saw all the weight I was lifting and made faces of being impressed.
“I am not showing you this to be a testimonial. I am showing this because I want you to realize that health is a lifetime quest. It took me 40 years before I hit my goal. Do you know why it took so long?
The women shook their heads and raised their shoulders.
“It wasn’t until my internal chemistry was balanced. Once I balanced my hormones, my body had the ability to be strong. I had benched pressed every week for decades. I never could bench press more than 200 pounds. Once I balanced my hormones, slowly I became stronger and stronger. This all happened without taking steroids, or anything synthetic.”
“Now here is the pearl. Your body, in your cases, your weight, is nothing more than a reflection of how balanced your biochemistry is. You will not be able to lose weight until your biochemistry is better balanced. And even if you could lose weight, you will not be able to keep that weight off, unless your biochemistry allows you to. Your biochemistry is the who-said of your physique.”
“A who what?” The naturally blond woman said.
“Let’s say that you are going to school to be a doctor. You go to college for 8 years and you have all the knowledge to be a doctor, but in the back of your mind, you know that you’re just not one yet. You finally graduate from medical school. You are still not ready to do an appendectomy. Then, you pass your medical boards and you receive a license to practice medicine, bam! You’re ready! You are ready because a who-said says you are. Your biochemistry is the who-said of your body. You have to prepare your body to lose weight or to lift heavy weights. You will not be ready to lose weight or lift heavy weights until your biochemistry, your internal who-said says it is time.”
I looked into their eyes.
“Your health is lifetime challenge. It is not something that can be done in 30 days. In fact, it will take you a minimum of 30 days to prepare your body to become a fat burning machine. I prefer that you be in Phase One for 60 days.”
I wanted them to agree to 60 days, but they didn’t.
If you do not prepare your body, you will most likely fail and/or quit. Once you prepare your body it will be much easier to lose the weight. The toughest phase is Phase Three. To bastardize a famous Mark Twain quote. ‘Losing weight is the easiest thing in life to do. I must have done it a hundred times.’ I don’t want to lose eight to just have you gain it back. And that’s what will happen if your internal chemistry isn’t balanced.”
Their heads were nodding.
“Now, be patient. The Hope Protocol is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. You have to change your lifestyle of eating to be healthy. It is not about starving yourself. It is not about sacrifices. It is about developing lifestyle principles.”
“In my next lecture, I am going to give you an overview of Phase One. I will explain to you what you need to do to prepare your body for transformation.”
I give the women great big Mac Hugs.
Vicky says to them.
“Instant gratification is just that, it remains only for an instant. What’s the sense of being happy for an instant. Our goal is for you to be happy for a life time.”
The women smile and exit.
“I like that. Can I steal it?”
“That’s why you put me down as your co-author even though I have never written a word.”
“Yes, you’re right. All my good quotes come from you.”
“That’s not why.”
I think for minute. “You are my muse.” I state.
She smiled and poured me some more coffee. I breathed in its aroma and stared at her. She accepted my stare without saying anything.
If you would like to know the four steps that are necessary to take before you can lose the weight, I would love to teach them to you. All you have to do is schedule for a free coaching session with me. I will teach each step that needs to be done to prepare your body for weight loss. I have 3 openings this week remaining.
